Fossil Museum:  ½ Day

The Rohrbach cement (Zement) company in Dotternhausen uncovered a shale fossil pit in its quarry.  They have built a smallish but interesting museum at their cement factory to display fossils, most of which are from the area.  After visiting the museum, you can borrow a hammer and chisel from the museum shop and head to the rock pit in front of the building to search for your own fossils.

Visit our scrapbook to see a few pictures of our trip to the fossil museum.

You should expect to spend about 3 hours to travel to and from, and to tour the museum.

Opening Times and Fees:

Jun-Nov Tu-Th   1:00pm-5:00pm
So 11:00pm-5:00pm

Entrance to the museum and rock pit is free.  They will collect a €5 deposit for a hammer and chisel, which you get back upon return.
